Seibert Architects Awarded Merit Award

Seibert Architects is pleased to announce receiving a Merit Award for Architecture Historic Preservation for the 42nd Street Residence, from the AIA Gulfcoast Chapter.

This house was designed in 1960 by William Rupp, and over the years experienced a series of insensitive renovations and additions. It was initially designed to embrace prevailing breezes, have abundant natural light and provide privacy by the use of garden walls and strategically placed windows. This concept has been maintained throughout the renovation. The 1960's "low tech" systems have been supplemented with high efficiency air conditioning units, a gas tankless hot water heater and either impact resistant glass or impact panels for severe storm protection.

42nd Street Open House

The William Rupp house located on 604 42nd Street will have an open house this Sunday April 11th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. This house was renovated in 2007 by Seibert Architects and will be featured in Europe's Hauser Magazine and on House Smarts TV this summer.

Visit the Cohen House this Sunday

This Sunday, June 21st you have the opportunity to visit one of the iconic Sarasota School of Architecture homes located on Siesta Key at 101 Garden Lane, Sarasota, 34242.

The Cohen house was designed by Paul Rudolph in 1955 for Sarasota's Mayor. The Cohen house was recently featured in book Modern America Houses, Fifty Years of Design in Architectural Record. Seibert Architects was also recently award the AIA Award of Merit for the Cohen house.

The article walks you through the home, detailing every encounter and the man accountable for it - with always having a great story to tell behind every piece.

"The lines are clean and the materials honest; a simple, rectilinear geometry of glass, white Ocala block and white fir post and beams."

"New Owner Michael Cichon is the man responsible. An avid art collector and art dealer, he's equally in love with the art of yesterday and today. Ancient tribal masks and figures bump shoulders with contemporary paintings, photographs and sculptures. It all looks great in this timeless house."

Cichon had purchased the house in 2003 with ambitions of restoring a lost civilization's timepiece.

"Cichon got to work, 'I took a utility blade to the rug...' Cichon kept working, but not alone. Architect Sam Holladay, AIA at Seibert Architects coordinated the restoration"

"For Cichon, it's the perfect house. There's 1560 square feet of interior space and 940 square feet of patio space, but it's all the house he needs. Nothing needs to be added, nothing could be taken away without hurting it. And that's how he defines perfection."

The article continues to state that there is a Floridian style that emanated from the mid twentieth century having roots here in Sarasota. Known as the Sarasota School of Architecture, this style of deep overhangs, flat roofs, large movable glass walls, floating planes that give the sense of light and airiness can be found through-out Sarasota. This iconic time period took prominent from the 1940s through the late 1960 early 1970s and forming fathers were Ralph Twitchell, Paul Rudolph, Mark Hampton, Victor Lundy, Gene Leedy, and our very own Tim Seibert whom founded Seibert Architects.

The article continues by talking about Seibert Archtects' remodeled and addition to 250 Bird Key Drive House.

"...in the style of the Sarasota School of Architecture; its clean lines and open feeling true to that renowned style. The dramatic foyer is visible as you approach the home and, once inside the walls of glass drink-in its lush setting even as the home delivers maximum privacy."

250 Bird Key Drive House was a remodel and addition done by Samuel Holladay AIA, Dale S. Parks AIA, and Pamela Holladay ASID.

Time is Running Out for Rudolph Riverview Buildings!

The deadline is approaching.....
The team of architects and developers determined to save the Paul Rudolph buildings at Riverview High School is running out of time. The deadline to present to the Sarasota County School Board a plan to preserve the Rudolphy buildings is March 15th.
To lose this landmark and piece of architectural history would be a shame. As a community where is the support to save these buildings?
We can only hope that March 15th brings good news for the committee and Paul Rudolph's Riverview buildings can be saved.

Riverview High School Music Quadrangle Forum Today

Diane Lewis, Architect will present the Riverview Music Quadrangle design, which preserves and reinvigorates the architecture of Paul Rudolph at Riverview High School and supports musical arts in Sarasota.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 24, 2008 : Both Events are free of charge.
4:00 p.m. Forum focused on educators and performance group.
6:30 p.m. Forum focused on neighborhood residents and interested community members.

Architecture Classes at USF Sarasota-Manatee

Seibert Architects will be participating in the upcoming architectural classes at USF Sarasota-Manatee starting January 16th, 2007.
The continuing education credits (1.5 per class) will be offered to architects. You dont have to be a design professional to take these classes.

Jan. 16th-Sarasota School of Architecture. Tim Seibert (our founder of Seibert Architects) and Gene Leedy examine work done from 1947 to 1965.

Jan. 23rd-Modern Architecture in Florida. The author of "Florida Modern" will analyze various approaches to building in Florida.

Jan. 30th-The State of Architecture Today. Panel dicussion featuring prominent local architects (Sam Holladay-current owner/principal of Seibert Architects will be participating in this discussion).

Feb. 6th-Green Architecture-Mark Smith, president of the Florida AIA and a panel of experts will evaluate the benefits of green design to both the enviornment and the economy. Participants will learn strategies and improve enegery efficiency in their own pursuit of green architecture.

Feb. 13th-Architectural Photography. Three prominent photographers talk about the process from different aspects.

Feb. 20th-Interior Designers in Collaboration with Architects. How different designers interpret the challenge of this collaboration to produce synergy. (Pamela Holladay, our resident Interior Designer will be a guest speaker).

Feb. 27th-Mid-Century Modern House Tour. Featuring a newly renovated house that was designed by architect William Rupp, who worked in the office of Paul Rudloph.
